Hamina is a wireless design platform for planning and validating Wi-Fi networks from a floor plan. Its automatic wall detection is genuinely good — point it at a drawing and the walls come out the other side.

Attenuation objects are the other half of a model: the cupboards, desks, racks and shelving that sit between an access point and a client. Those still get drawn by hand. Placing an object involves far more variables than tracing a wall — which way it faces, what is inside it, whether the shelf is full or empty — and the automation is not there yet.

Until it is, here are pre-drawn objects from me and from other people in the community, ready to drop into a design. There is real value in showing a populated building rather than an empty one: a customer who can see the desks and the racking reads the room the way you do, and understands why coverage behaves the way it does.

Objects here all face the same way. To turn one, or to convert it to a different zone type, run it through Joel Crane’s excellent Hamina clipboard tool before pasting into your plan. Shop for the object here; angle it there.

Copy

Rotate, if you need to

Paste straight into Hamina with Ctrl+V, or through the clipboard tool first to turn it to the angle you want.

Adjust

Drag it into place, delete parts you do not need, then tune the loss per metre against your own survey data.

Materials and loss

Where a part is thin — a steel panel, a glass door — the figure is the material’s own. Where a volume is a mixture of material and air — a loaded pallet bay, a rack of equipment, a canopy — it is a bulk figure taken from Hamina’s presets.

These are starting points for 5 GHz, not measurements. Loss varies with frequency, moisture, construction and how full the thing is. Validate against a survey before you trust a prediction — a stocked pallet bay and an empty one are different objects.

Licence

The objects, their descriptions and their drawings are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Use them commercially, change them, build on them — just credit the source if you republish the objects themselves. Dropping one into a survey or a client deliverable needs no credit at all.

Objects contributed by other people carry the same licence. Contributors agree to a short set of terms before submitting, and are credited by name on every object they send.
